Chandigarh AAP seeks CBI inquiry into 24X7 supply project

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded a high-level inquiry into the alleged corruption in the Manimajra 24×7 water supply project. A delegation of the party, led by city unit president Vijay Pal Singh, today submitted a memorandum to Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria.

They have demanded that an inquiry into the alleged corruption in the project must be conducted by the CBI or by a special investigating team (SIT) under the supervision of a senior judge.

Vijay Pal Singh said while a Vigilance inquiry is underway, his party is not satisfied with the scope and progress of the current investigation.

The party has pointed out that the administrative, technical and financial irregularities in the Rs 75-crore project cannot take place without deliberate manipulation and the involvement of senior officials as well as politicians.

It emphasised that Vigilance officials are under pressure from senior bureaucrats and political leaders, hence the need for an independent probe.

Scrap project: Cong

Congress councillor Gurpreet Singh Gabi has demanded the 24×7 water supply project be scrapped, especially when people in Mani Majra are struggling for even a drop of clean water.

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP and the MC, Gabi alleged the project was deeply rooted in corruption and pushed forward for selfish interests despite local residents being satisfied with the two-time-a-day water supply.

He said right from its inauguration, the residents received muddy and low-pressure water supply for barely one or two hours a day. Their complaints were ignored by BJP leaders and municipal officials, he alleged, while stating that the current vigilance probe is insufficient and the investigation should be handed over to the CBI.
