Last week, while executing the court order to vacate the flat, the police team found Humaira’s mutilated body in it. Karachi DIG, South Zone Asad Raza said that Humaira’s family has flatly refused to take the actress’ body or bury it.

According to Raza, the family has claimed that they had broken all ties with Humaira in the last two years. Raza said that this case presents unusual challenges, as the body could not be found for such a long time. Neither the neighbors tried to inquire about the well-being of the actress nor did anyone have any suspicion.

Chippa Welfare Trust spokesperson Muhammad Aurangzeb said, “Usually when a person dies, the body starts emitting a foul smell after a few days, but in this case no one noticed any strange smell even after more than a month.”

He further said, “When the police called us to take the body, it was in a mutilated condition. Its stench was unbearable. So we kept it in the cold storage of our mortuary separately from other bodies.” DIG Raza said that an autopsy is being conducted to confirm the cause of death.

Humaira, who lived alone in Karachi, had worked in several television serials and two films. Sindh Province’s Culture and Tourism Minister Zulfiqar Shah said that if no member of Humaira’s family comes to collect her body, the department will make proper arrangements for her funeral.

This is the second case in recent weeks when a Pakistani actress has been found dead in her residence several days after her death. Last month, actress Ayesha Khan was also found dead in similar circumstances in her apartment in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. She was 84 years old and had been living alone for a long time.

Experts say these cases highlight the struggles and problems, including loneliness and isolation, that women in Pakistan face when they pursue careers in the entertainment industry.
