Berhampur: Man Arrested for Fake Railway Job Scam

Berhampur: A 50-year-old man was arrested by Berhampur Police on Monday for defrauding job seekers with fake railway jobs for large payments.
The accused has been identified as A. Bighneswar Rao Dora from Kukudakhandi village.The arrest followed a complaint by S. Krushna Chandra Dora (32) from Kansamari village under Pattapur PS, filed on July 10, 2025, at Berhampur Sadar Police Station.
The scam began on March 18, 2023, when Bighneswar promised railway jobs to the complainant and friends at Digapahandi bus stand, claiming railway connections. He demanded ₹12.5 lakh per person. In Bhubaneswar, victims met Samarjeet Rout, alias Basanta Singh, and Subhalaxmi Rout, who posed as railway officials, showing forged documents to gain trust. They collected ₹62.5 lakh from five candidates.
Victims were taken to Kolkata for a fake medical exam at B.R. Singh Hospital, receiving fraudulent call letters and joining letters via email. Suspecting deceit, they found Bighneswar and accomplices unresponsive.
The accused was arrested and forwarded to the court. Investigation of the case is in progress to arrest other accused persons, said Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
