World Population Day observed with public outreach

The Health Department celebrated World Population Day in the district on Friday by organising functions at various departmental offices. During the district-level event held at his office, Civil Surgeon Dr Gurpreet Singh Rai addressed the general public, officials and employees, emphasising the importance of population control for the country’s welfare and to ensure better facilities for families.

Dr Rai highlighted that the increasing population poses a significant obstacle to societal progress, making it essential to curb population growth. He spoke in detail about contraception methods and the importance of preventing unwanted pregnancies. Dr Rai urged everyone to plan their families according to their circumstances to provide better care and facilities to family members.

He further explained that overpopulation adversely affects both the economic and social fabric of society. The event also featured addresses by Dr Navpreet Singh, Medical Officer; Sukhwant Singh, Mass Media Officer; Ayush Bhalla, and others. Additionally, department officials distributed pamphlets to raise awareness in the community.
