2 scooter-borne youths stab man to death in Meharban

A man was murdered by two unidentified scooter-borne persons at Gujjar Bhawan, Meharban, on Thursday night. Earlier, his family members alleged that the victim was murdered by the suspects after snatching Rs 1,200 and a mobile phone from him but later they changed their statement, stating that nothing was snatched by them.

By the time the victim’s wife and children reached him after hearing his screams, the miscreants fled the scene. With the help of the people, the injured person was taken to the Civil Hospital but he was declared brought dead by doctors. The deceased was identified as Tilakraj.

SHO, Meharban police station, inspector Paramdip Singh, said Danish, son of the deceased, Tilakraj, initially told mediapersons that his father had been staying at home for the past two months due to illness. On Thursday night, his father and his mother Kamla Devi were standing outside the house to go for a walk. Meanwhile, his mother Kamla Devi went inside the house to wear slippers and his father went out of the house. At some distance, two youths riding a scooter surrounded him and stabbed him in the stomach. The miscreants fled the scene after allegedly snatching Tilakraj’s mobile and about Rs 1,200.

Later, when the police started investigation, Danish changed his statement, saying that his father’s mobile was with him and his father was not carrying Rs 1,200 in his pocket rather he was just carrying Rs 200 and the same was recovered from his pocket. He told the police that he mentioned snatching as the cause behind the crime on the basis of the statement of the bystanders, the SHO said.

He said the suspects had been taking a round outside the house of the victim. When they saw him alone, the youths came and after stabbing him, they fled the scene. It could be possible that the suspects had come to commit murder only. However, the family was not aware about the reason behind the crime.

“The police got a CCTV footage of the suspects and efforts are on to nab them. After their arrest, the cause behind the murder can be ascertained,” the SHO said.

He said a murder case was registered against the suspects and they would be held soon.
