India can become country with world’s largest Muslim population by…, Hindi population will be…

The Muslim community has emerged as the fastest growing religious group in the world, while Christianity’s share in the global population has declined between 2010 and 2020. However, despite the decline, Christianity is still the largest religious group in the world. It is being expected that in the next 25 years, India will be the country with the most Muslims in the world. The Muslim population in India increased by 3.56 crores. The report said that the rate of conversion to Hinduism is very low, and their fertility rate is equal to the global average – due to which their share has remained stable.

According to a recent report of the Pew Research Center ‘How the global religious landscape changed from 2010 to 2020’, the Muslim population increased by 347 million, which is more than the combined growth of all other religions. It also says that in the next 25 years, India will be the country with the most Muslims in the world.

What is the cause of the increase of population?

The share of Muslims globally increased from 23.9% in 2010 to 25.6% in 2020. This growth was mainly due to demographic factors such as high birth rate and young population.

The highest growth of the Muslim population was seen in the Asia-Pacific region, where the world’s largest Muslim population resides. The Muslim population in this region increased by 16.2% between 2010 and 2020. Muslims constitute 94.2% of the population in the Middle East-North Africa region, while in sub-Saharan Africa it is 33%.

What is the situation of Hindus?

The report said that the Hindu population grew by 12% between 2010 and 2020, which is almost equal to the global population growth. The number of Hindus in 2020 was 1.2 billion, which is 14.9% of the global population. The Hindu population in India declined slightly from 80% in 2010 to 79% in 2020, while the Muslim population increased from 14.3% to 15.2%.

According to the Pew report, Hindu and Jewish populations kept pace with global population growth. Hindus are the largest religious group in India, Nepal and Mauritius. Although the share of Hindus in India has declined marginally, it still makes up the largest share of the country’s population.

Christianity declines, atheists increase

The number of Christians in the world grew from 2.18 billion to 2.3 billion, but their global share fell from 30.6% to 28.8%. This decline was mainly due to religious abandonment, especially in regions such as Europe, North America, and Australia.
