5 Killed, 1 Injured As SUV Falls Into 600 Feet Deep Gorge In J&K's Ramban

In a devastating road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, five people lost their lives and one person was seriously injured after a private SUV plunged into a deep gorge late Friday night.

SUV Loses Control, Plunges Into Gorge

The incident took place near Senabathi in the Ukhral Pogal Paristan area when the vehicle, carrying six passengers, veered off the road and fell approximately 600 feet into a gorge. Rescuers reached the spot and found one passenger, Tauqeer Ahmad (20), dead at the scene.

The remaining five were critically injured and rushed to nearby hospitals. Three of them — Mohd Rafiq (40), Abdul Latief (40), and Ajaz Ahmad (20) — succumbed to their injuries while being taken for treatment.

Shakeel Ahmad (24) was later declared dead at a hospital in Srinagar on Saturday morning, bringing the death toll to five. The lone survivor, Yawar Ahmad (25), remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment.

The accident has triggered shock and grief across the region. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Union Minister Jitendra Singh expressed their condolences and promised all necessary assistance to the affected families.

Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan announced ex gratia compensation of ₹1 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹25,000 for the injured.

“All possible support is being extended to the affected families,” the DC said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

10 Dead After Private Bus Overturns in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur District

Another tragic road accident occurred on Monday morning in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, where a minibus overturned on the Dasuya-Hajipur Road, killing 10 people and injuring at least 12 others.

The incident took place near Sagra Adda in the Dasuya area. As per reports, the bus lost control and overturned, leading to significant casualties. The injured have been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Dasuya, with several said to be in critical condition.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus flipped suddenly, triggering panic among the passengers. Locals rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help and immediately began rescue efforts. Police were alerted, and ambulances arrived promptly.

With the help of residents, police teams pulled the injured from the wreckage and transported them to the hospital. The vehicle involved belonged to Kartar Bus, a private transport company.

While the exact cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed, authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether it was the result of driver error, mechanical failure, or other factors related to road conditions.
