'Canada Not Your Playground': Khalistan Separatist Threatens Kapil Sharma After Attack On Cafe — Report

Pro-Khalistan separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) founder Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has issued a threat against actor and comedian Kapil Sharma, warning him that “Canada is not your playground” and demanding he “take back his blood money to Hindustan,” reported NDTV.

In a video message, Pannun, who was declared an “individual terrorist” by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019, accused Sharma of promoting Hindutva ideology under the guise of conducting business in Canada. He asserted that Canada would not tolerate such ideas taking root on its soil.

The threat comes just days after Kap’s Cafe, the comedian's newly opened restaurant in Surrey, British Columbia, came under attack by unknown assailants on Wednesday night. Responsibility for the incident was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi and Toofan Singh, both linked to the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

BKI is designated a terrorist organisation by the Canadian government, and Laddi is listed among the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) most-wanted individuals.

“Canada is not your playground. Take your blood money back to Hindustan. Canada will not allow violent Hindutva ideology to take root on Canadian soil under the guise of business,” Pannun declared in his message directed at Sharma.

He further questioned whether Kap’s Cafe was merely a comedy venue or part of “a larger strategy to export Hindutva,” asking pointedly: “One business at a time?”

On Wednesday, gunshots were fired at Mr Sharma’s café, which had opened only days earlier on July 4. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Kap’s Cafe said they were “processing the shock” but remained resolute in standing against violence. Mr Sharma has yet to publicly comment on the attack.

SFJ is a banned organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for engaging in activities deemed anti-national and prejudicial to India’s security and integrity, according to the Home Ministry. The group continues to be involved in subversive efforts in Punjab and other regions, aiming to disrupt India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
