No Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre At Govt Medical Colleges In Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Yellow fever vaccination centre is not available at any government medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh. Yellow Fever Vaccination centre is available only at AIIMS, Bhopal. Other states like Maharashtra has 8, Gujarat has seven and Delhi has six and West Bengal has 5 centres.

Even Chhattisgarh has two vaccination centres, as per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The vaccine is recommended for travellers visiting countries where yellow fever is endemic. Yellow fever is a serious viral disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes, causing symptoms ranging from fever and muscle pain to severe liver damage and bleeding. It can be life-threatening, especially in areas where the disease is common, like parts of Africa and south America.

Former director NHM (vaccination) Dr Santosh Shukla said, ‘Madhya Pradesh is a big state and there must be at least 5 yellow fever vaccination centres. AIIMS, Bhopal has only one centre. Earlier, JP Hospital (district hospital) had one yellow fever vaccination centre but after AIIMS, Bhopal, came into existence, JP Hospital’s vaccination centre was removed and AIIMS, Bhopal, has been made centre for it.

At least old centres should be opened in government medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh for convenience of foreign country travellers. The vaccine is recommended for travellers visiting countries where yellow fever is endemic. In India, the vaccine is available at authorised centres, and the cost is Rs 300 per dose.’
