BJP, AAP protests against each other in Jalandhar

The AAP and the BJP held separate dharnas against each other in different parts of the city today. While BJP leaders burnt an effigy of state Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for words used by him against the Prime Minister, AAP leaders protested against saffron party leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa’s recent statement accusing him of siding with gangsters.

Under the leadership of BJP Jalandhar district president Sushil Sharma, many workers staged a massive protest. BJP leaders said Mann had shamed the entire country. Former cabinet minister and national executive member Manoranjan Kalia; former Jalandhar mayor and state general secretary Rakesh Rathore; former MP Sushil Kumar Rinku; former MLA Sheetal Angural; former state secretary Anil Sachchar; former district president Subhash Sood; Ravi Mahendru; district general secretary Ashok Sareen Hikki, Rajesh Kapoor, Amarjit Singh Goldy and sports cell state president Sunny Sharma and others participated in the protest.

Sharma said, “Bhagwant Mann has forgotten his dignity in the panic of failing on every front. It is clear from Mann’s statements that he is saying such things to hide his failures.” Rakesh Rathore Sheetal Angural, Manoranjan Kalia and Sushil Rinku also condemned CM’s language.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a protest against the BJP and strongly condemned statements of its leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa in support of gangsters who killed textile businessman Sanjay Verma in Abohar. Many senior party officials including AAP MLAs and ministers participated in the protest.

Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, Mayor Vineet Dhir, Amritpal Singh, AAP leader Pawan Kumar Tinu, Ramnik Singh Randhawa, Rajwinder Kaur Thiara, Dinesh Dhall, Senior Deputy Mayor Balbir Singh Bittu, Deputy Mayor Amrik Singh, Principal Prem Kumar and others were present on the occasion.

AAP leaders said the BJP had been working against the law and order of Punjab. They said gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was being given political protection by the BJP’s Central Government.

AAP MLAs said Manjinder Sirsa and all BJP leaders should apologise to the people of Punjab. They said the BJP was opposing encounter of gangsters. They said BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa was threatening legal action against the Punjab Government for killing gangsters. They said the BJP was supporting gangsters by opposing state’s action.
