Experts advocate family planning as key to sustainable development
To mark the World Population Day, the district health department organised a workshop at the Jallainwala Bagh Martyrs Memorial Civil hospital here. The event aimed to raise awareness about family planning and population control.
Addressing the gathering, Civil Surgeon Dr Kirandeep Kaur emphasised the importance of family planning, stating that the increasing population is the root of most problems in the modern day world. She highlighted the need for awareness about various family planning methods, including contraceptive vaccines and pills.
Dr Kaur mentioned the contraceptive vaccine ‘Antara,’ which protects against unwanted pregnancy for three months and the contraceptive pill ‘Chhaya,’ which is safe and effective in preventing unwanted pregnancy without any side effects.
She urged people to adopt various family planning methods, such as sterilisation, tubal ligation, Copper-T, PPI, UCD, oral pills and condoms, and to contact their nearest health centre for more information.
District Family Welfare Officer Dr Neelam Bhagat also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the various methods and means of family planning available at health centres. She encouraged people to take advantage of these services to plan their families effectively.
The event was attended by Senior Medical Officer Dr Rashmi Vij; District Mass Media Officer Amardeep Singh; Kamaldeep Bhalla; Gurinder Kaur; and other staff members. The workshop aimed to promote awareness about family planning and population control and to encourage people to take informed decisions about their reproductive health.
