Eight booked on charge of assault
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked eight persons on the charge of assaulting a villager and snatching. Investigating officer (IO) Amrik Lal said the accused were identified as Manjit Singh, his brother Sarwan Singh, residents of Chhohle village, and their six accomplices. Ranjit Singh, a resident of Raipur Arian village, complained to the police that the accused attacked him with sharp weapons on July 8, snatched his gold chain, injured him and threatened him with dire consequences. The IO said a case under Sections 115 (2), 118 (1) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 304 (snatching) of the BNS was registered against the accused.
Addict held for consuming Drug
Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a drug addict on the charge of consuming heroin. Investigating Officer (IO) Buta Ram said the accused was identified as Jatindar Singh, a resident of Daulatpur village. The IO said a lighter, a silver paper and a plastic pipe used for consuming contraband were recovered from his possession. A case under Sections 27/61/85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the accused, he said.
2 women among four POs held
Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested four proclaimed offenders (POs), including two women absconding for the past few months. Investigating Officer (IO) Jagtar Singh said the accused were identified as Gulshan Kaur, Paramjit Kaur, Lovjit and Sukhdev, all residents of Dabri Colony, Malsian village. The IO said all the accused were wanted in a case of theft registered on April 12, 2020. They were declared POs on April 17, 2025, the IO said.
Man duped of Rs 4.91 lakh
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a travel agent for cheating and trafficking. Investigating Officer (IO) Jaspal Singh said the accused was identified as Budh Dass, a resident of Bajigar Dera under the Salem Tabri police station, Ludhiana. Sukhdev Raj, a resident of Sangowl village, had complained to Jalandhar (Rural) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) that he had paid Rs 4.91 lakh to the accused for facilitating his children’s migration abroad. However, he neither sent his children abroad nor returned money. The IO said a case was registered against the accused and his wife in this connection.
One held for murder bid
Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a miscreant on the charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and rioting. Investigating Officer (IO) Rajindar Pal Singh said the accused was identified as Mustafa, alias Pamma, a resident of Rampur village under the Doraha police station in Ludhiana. Sadam Hussain, a resident of Mohalla Laheywal, Nakodar, had complained to the police that the accused waylaid and attacked him on April 11, intending to kill and seriously injure him, and threatened him with dire consequences. The IO said a case was registered against the accused and his six accomplices.
