‘Disturbing shift in societal values’: Khattar on Gurugram, Hisar murders
Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has expressed concern over two recent shocking incidents in Haryana -– the alleged murder of a national-level tennis player by her father in Gurugram and the killing of a school principal by two students in Hisar district. He emphasised on the need for introspection and reform in social thinking.
Speaking with mediapersons at party’s district office ‘Karna Kamal’, Khattar however said that investigation is underway and he should not comment on it. But giving a social message, he said these tragic incidents reflect a disturbing shift in societal values and highlight the urgent need for introspection and reform in social thinking.
He pointed out that the decline in the joint family system led to a weakening of the traditional support systems that once helped manage crises. “Earlier, families used to be large with elders guiding and nurturing the younger generation. The presence of grandparents and extended family ensured moral grounding and emotional support," he said.
Khattar blamed the increasing Western influence and lack of proper upbringing as contributing factors to such crimes. “Society is going through significant change, and unfortunately, not all of it is positive. The loss of cultural values and discipline is having an adverse impact on the younger generation,” he added.
Khattar was in the party office to interact with party leaders and workers. Earlier, he held a meeting at PWD Rest House in Gharaunda with Haryana Assembly Speaker and Gharaunda MLA Harvinder Kalyan, Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh, party senior leaders –- former MP Sanjay Bhatia, former BJP district officiating president Brij Gupta and others.
Responding to a question about his name being considered for the position of BJP national president, Khattar smiled and humbly recited a Sanskrit ‘shloka’, indicating that he would accept any responsibility given to him by the party.
On the SYL canal dispute with Punjab, the Union Minister said that talks are underway and progressing in the right direction. He refrained from making any political statement, instead emphasising dialogue and cooperation between states.
Commenting on the newly formed Congress organisation, Khattar extended his best wishes to the Opposition party and said, “Let democracy flourish with healthy competition and ideas.”
Speaking about his visit to Karnal, Khattar said he frequently visits the city to meet colleagues and supporters. “Today, I am here to interact with the new team formed in Karnal. I will soon hold discussions with them to align our goals and strengthen our outreach,” he said.
