2.8K property owners issued notices in Yamunanagar, Jagadhri

The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has issued notices to 2,800 property owners, who owe property tax of over Rs 1 lakh to it. A total property tax to the tune of over Rs 30 crore is pending.

If the property owners failed to clear the dues soon, the civic body will seal their properties, said MCYJ Commissioner Akhil Pilani.

According to information, notices have been issued to defaulters with property tax of over Rs 1 lakh under Sub-Section (1) and (2) of Section 113 and Section 130 of Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.

The MCYJ has made different categories of the property tax defaulters — Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh and more than Rs 10 lakh.

After issuing the final notice, the MC will start sealing the properties. The property tax defaulters include owners of big malls, cineplexes, industries, educational institutions, hospitals, automobiles, rice mills and marriage palaces in the twin cities.

According to information, the MC employees are issuing notices to the property owners by visiting their premises. If a property owner is not available, the notice is being pasted on the wall or gate of his or her property.

MCYJ Commissioner Akhil Pilani said the government was giving 10 per cent discount on property tax till July 31. “The property owners should deposit the tax before July 31 and take advantage of the government scheme. No discount will be given after July 31 and entire property tax will be collected along with interest. The properties of those persons who failed to pay the tax will be sealed,” said Pilani.

According to information, there are 2,15,468 properties in the MCYJ area and a number of property owners have not paid the tax for many years. These include residential, commercial, empty plots and government offices.

“The property owners can deposit the tax at the Citizen Facilitation Centres (CFCs) situated in all three MC offices. Besides, the property owners can also deposit the tax online on the MC website,” added Pilani. He said the facility of depositing the tax was also available at Atal Seva Kendra.
