Football Club Nawanshahr win match under ‘War against Drugs’ campaign

In an effort to combat drug abuse among the youth, the Daily Morning Football Club Nawanshahr organised a football match on Sunday as part of the ongoing campaign titled “War against Drugs.” The match was contested between the Daily Morning Football Club Nawanshahr and Bajrang Football Club Nawanshahr, with the former securing a narrow 2–1 victory.

The event, held under the leadership of club president Ajay Mehra, aimed to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage the younger generation to stay away from drugs through active participation in sports. Chairman Tarsem Lal, who also serves as the Deputy Group Education and Information Officer, stressed the importance of engaging youth in sports to keep them drug-free and constructively involved.

In the first half, players including Mukhtiar Rai, Ajay Mehra, Avtar Singh, Tarsem Lal, Sarabjit Singh, Ajay Sareen, Vicky Guru, Minta Guzar Puriya, Harish Bhatia, Sukhmeet Singh Bajwa, Gurjot Singh Bajwa, Manju Bali, Rovin, Lovedeep Labhi, and Kamaljeet showcased excellent teamwork and passing. Two goals were scored during this half—one by Harish Bhatia and the other by Lovedeep Labhi, both achieved through brilliant shots on goal.

In the second half, players from Bajrang Football Club also delivered a strong performance. However, despite repeated attempts, the team could not score again due to the solid defense by Sarabjit Singh Sabi, Tarsem Lal, Minta Guzar Puriya, and Ajay Mehra, along with outstanding goalkeeping by Ajay Sareen.

The match concluded with the Daily Morning Football Club Nawanshahr emerging victorious with a final score of 2–1. After the match, refreshments were served to both teams by club president Ajay Mehra. Former SDO Raghuvinder Pal Singh officiated as the referee and was appreciated for his excellent conduct during the game.

Tarsem Lal reiterated the club’s dedication to steering the youth away from drugs through continuous sports activities. He stated, “Our aim is to keep our youth involved in positive activities like sports so they can contribute to the development of our nation.” The event received full support and enthusiastic participation from the coaches, management, and both current and former players of the Daily Morning Football Club.
