100 killed in fresh Israeli strike, Gaza death toll surpasses 58,000

Tel Aviv: The death toll in Gaza has surpassed 58,000 as a fresh airstrike by Israel killed nearly 100 Palestinians on Sunday, Al Jazeera reported. An airstrike on a Gaza City market killed 12 people, as per the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The Gaza Government Media Office has alleged that Israeli security forces intentionally targeted civilians at aid distribution sites. However, the Israel Defence Forces have not commented on the incident. At least 805 civilians have lost their lives and 5,250 people sustained injuries while attempting to collect aid since May, when GHF started its operations. According to Ahmed Abu Saifan, who works at al-Awda Hospital, one of the deadliest Israeli attacks took place at the Nuseirat refugee camp. The Israeli missile killed 10 people, including children. The incident took place when people queued to collect drinking water. Several others were injured.

According to the IDF, it had targeted a Palestinian fighter, but the missile changed its direction due to a technical failure. However, the claim by the IDF could not be independently verified.

The people of Gaza are facing an acute water crisis, with most of the people not even getting water to drink. The water crisis is happening due to Israeli blockade, which has forced the desalination and sanitation plants to shut down.

The death toll in Gaza has reached 58,026, and more than 138,500 people have been injured since Israel launched its attack on Gaza on October 7, 2023. Half of them were women and children.

Several fatalities have occurred among those seeking humanitarian assistance at locations controlled by the GHF.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Defence Forces reported ongoing efforts to neutralise Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives involved in rebuilding the groups’ military capabilities in Gaza. The recent airstrikes killed several senior commanders within these organisations. The IDF has published photographs of seven of these deceased commanders.
