Jaishankar Calls For 'Continued Normalisation' Of Ties With China, Praises For Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday noted improving relations between India and China and called for "continued normalisation" of ties between the two Asian superpowers.
Jaishankar also praised Beijing for the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra during his meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing.
"It is a pleasure to be with you during my visit for the SCO Foreign Ministers Meeting. India supports a successful Chinese presidency at the SCO," said Jaishankar during his first visit to China in over five years.
"Our bilateral relationship, as you have pointed out, has been steadily improving since the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan last October. I am confident that my discussions in this visit will maintain that positive trajectory," he added.
The Union minister also noted the marking of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations by the two countries.
"The resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is also widely appreciated in India. Continued normalisation of our ties can produce mutually beneficial outcomes," Jaishankar said.
Addressing the current "complex" geopolitical situation, Jaishankar underlined that as neighbouring nations and major economies, "an open exchange of views and perspectives between India and China is very important."
During his visit, the EAM will be attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Tianjin city on Tuesday.
