Washington Sundar provided a decisive breakthrough to India in the second session of Day 4 of the Lord s Test against England, which moved the head coach of India Gautam Gambhir to an emotional outburst. The off-spinner caught Joe Root leg-before wicket on 40, ending one of the most important partnerships. Gambhir who was in a heated state as a result of the experienced England batter, was spotted on the balcony of the legendary Lord Cricket Ground screaming his head off, and he could not help but express his excitement.
Gambhir was hardly surprised given the fact that Root had once got a narrow escape in an occasion when a Mohammed Siraj delivery had caught him on the pads and the on-field umpire Paul Reiffel had not raised his finger. India made a request of review, but replay maintained the on-field ruling as umpire call.
Root had contributed a well-compiled century towards England impressive first-innings score. But when Sundar gave India a much-needed breakthrough in the second innings, Gambhir stood up uncontrollably expressing his ecstasy.
Washington Sundar soon made his way back to strike his third victim by clean bowling England captain Ben Stokes who scored 33 in the penultimate session of the day. As both sides have registered the same score of 387 in the first innings, the Lord Test is now in a delicate position with India and England being neck-to-neck situations ahead of a thrilling finale.
