Bihar News: Nitish Kumar’s Law And Order Under Fire As Murders Surge Ahead Of State Elections

As Bihar gears up for the upcoming elections, the Nitish Kumar-led double-engine government faces intense criticism over the alarming deterioration of law and order. In recent days, the state has witnessed a disturbing rise in violent crimes, particularly murders, causing widespread fear among residents. The latest incident occurred in Patna City, where lawyer Jitendra Mahto was shot dead. This follows two back-to-back murders in Nalanda, including the killing of a youth participating in a police public hearing. A nurse was murdered over a land dispute, and in Sitamarhi, a businessman was shot dead. In Vaishali, the body of a missing woman was recovered after a month.Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav has slammed the government, declaring that “law and order has turned into criminal disorder.” Although Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently held a review meeting on crime, critics claim that violence has only escalated since then. Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary defended the government, stating that action is promptly taken against criminals, with arrests and even encounters when necessary. However, the consistent pattern of daily murders and assaults has raised questions about the state's claims of good governance and effective policing, with many accusing the administration of being in a state of inaction.
