J&K govt provides jobs to 40 terror-affected families, kicks off rehabilitation programme

The Jammu and Kashmir government has started helping families who lost loved ones to terrorism, just 15 days after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha promised support.

 

Yesterday in Baramulla, LG Manoj Sinha handed over appointment letters to members of 40 such families. Officials said this process will continue until every affected family is given proper support and rehabilitation.

 

During his visit to Anantnag on June 29, the lieutenant governor had promised that the eligible next of kin would be given government jobs within 30 days. That promise has now been fulfilled in just half the time.

 

Helplines have been set up in every district so that families of terror victims can report complaints, such as missing FIRs, land being taken over, or damage to their homes and property. Many complaints, some going back to the 1990s, have already been received.

 

The administration is working to reach every affected family and make sure they receive justice, jobs, and help with rebuilding their lives. The LG’s office has also promised to investigate cases involving the killing of Kashmiri Pandits fully.

 

So far, the grievance registrar for terror victims has officially recorded 193 cases in Kashmir and 61 in Jammu. Many families never got compensation, and in several cases, FIRs were not registered or were marked as ‘untraced’, a senior official said. To address this, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have set up a high-level committee to reopen 45 such old or ignored cases. Fresh investigations have already been ordered in 23 of them.

 

Since the abrogation of Article 370, the Union Territory government has taken strong action against separatists and their supporters. Agencies like the National Investigation Agency, State Investigation Agency and Enforcement Directorate have acted against those involved in terror funding and narco-terror, and have seized their properties.
