Aadhaar Card Update: Many times it happens that a person’s Aadhaar number gets deactivated by mistake. This often happens due to an error in the data or a mistake in the death registration process, due to which it is assumed that the Aadhaar number holder has died. But now you do not need to worry. Because you can activate the Aadhaar card again. Let us tell you how.
Does UIDAI deactivate Aadhaar on the death of a person?
UIDAI has issued a circular on 7 July 2025. According to this, “UIDAI deactivates the Aadhaar number of the deceased person on the basis of verification and matching of the information from the death registration details with the database of the death registration authority and the Aadhaar database. If your card has also been deactivated, then let’s quickly know how to reactivate it.”
How to reactivate Aadhaar
1. The Aadhaar number holder has to apply to reactivate his Aadhaar. The holder can submit his application by post, email or in person to the nearest regional office / state office.
2. After this, the concerned office will verify it. Within two weeks of receiving the application, the Aadhaar holder will be called to a special Aadhaar center to submit his complete biometric information (face, iris and fingers) under the supervision of a UIDAI officer.
3. The concerned office will inform the holder about the status of the application within 30 days of submission of biometric information. The status of the application will also be informed to the Aadhaar number holder through SMS. You can also check it on the myAadhaar portal.
Information to Registrar of Births and Deaths
According to the circular, if it is proved that your Aadhaar number was deactivated due to wrong reporting of death, but you are alive, then the Aadhaar number will be reactivated. UIDAI will inform the concerned Registrar of Births and Deaths about this. A copy of this will also be sent to the Registrar General of India and the Aadhaar card holder.
These details will be required to reactivate Aadhaar number
1. Aadhaar number
2. Name, gender and date of birth
3. Address, district and state
4. Mobile number and email (if available)
5. Aadhaar details of parents (if age is below 18 years)
6. Signature or thumb impression, place and date
