BJD Demands Justice in Fakir Mohan College Case, Seeks Meeting with President Murmu

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has stepped up its demand for justice in the wake of the tragic self-immolation attempt by Soumyashree Bisi, a B.Ed student at Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore.
The party has formally sought a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu during her two-day visit to Odisha to raise concerns over the deteriorating safety of women and students under the BJP-led state government.
In a press conference, senior BJD leader Tukuni Sahu strongly condemned the incident, asserting that it reflects a disturbing pattern of increasing insecurity for women across Odisha since the BJP came to power in the state.
Despite repeated occurrences of such distressing incidents, the state government continues to remain indifferent,” she said.
Sahu confirmed that the BJD has emailed an official request to meet President Murmu to bring the issue to her attention and seek her intervention.
The BJD has also questioned the state government’s handling of the case, pointing out that Soumyashree had earlier lodged a formal complaint with the college administration and had appealed for help from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and State Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj. However, no action was taken, the party alleged, which ultimately drove the student to take such an extreme step.
