FM College Student’s Condition Remains Critical: AIIMS Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The health of Soumyashree Bisi, a second-year integrated B.Ed student at Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore, remains critical following her self-immolation attempt in the campus.
Admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, she has sustained 90-95% burn injuries, causing severe damage to her kidneys and respiratory system.
According to Dr. Dilip Parida, Superintendent of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, the student’s condition is unchanged from yesterday, with no notable improvement. The next 72 hours are critical, he added.
Soumyashree is on 98% oxygen support, with declining potassium levels and no urination due to kidney damage.
A team of medical experts is monitoring her, administering fluid replacement and considering dialysis if necessary, Dr. Parida further stated.
The incident follows Soumyashree’s protest against Samir Sahu, Head of the Department, whom she accused of misbehavior. Despite filing a formal complaint, she was reportedly distressed by the college’s inaction. On the day of the incident, she poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze on campus.
Earlier today, Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) held a massive protest outside Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore, demanding justice for Soumyasree.
Meanwhile, the Police have arrested Sahu and launched an investigation into the allegations and circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
