‘The Revolutionaries’  first-look launched; reveals star-studded cast and nail-biting visuals

Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the first look for one of its highly anticipated original series, The Revolutionaries, a gritty period drama set to release next year. Lasting just under a minute, the teaser offers an action-packed glimpse into India’s pre-independence era, putting the spotlight on young patriots who chose the path of armed resistance over non-violent struggle.

The show features a star-studded ensemble cast led by Bhuvan Bam (Dhindora and Taaza Khabar), Rohit Saraf (The Sky is Pink and Mismatched), Pratibha Ranta (Heeramandi and Laapata Ladies), Gurfateh Pirzada (Guilty and Call Me Bae), and Jason Shah (Heeramandi and Barrister Babu), directed by Nikkhil Advani (Kal Ho Naa Ho and Vedaa).

The teaser brings out a rich cultural atmosphere, with sequences showcasing shootouts, figures lurking in the shadows, glimpses of the revolution and emotions running high. Intense and dramatic, the setting ranges from gritty alleyways to candlelit interiors, suggesting a fusion of action, espionage, and India’s dramatic history.

The Revolutionaries is based on economist and historian Sanjeev Sanyal’s acclaimed bestseller Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom. The author shed light on some of the lesser-known figures of the independence movement — people who challenged the colonial rule with rebellion rather than passive resistance. These included groups like the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and the Ghadar Party, along with revolutionaries like Rash Behari Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and Subhas Chandra Bose.

The director described the experience of adapting such stories as “deeply enriching and enlightening,” adding that this project would be a brilliant foundation to bring such unheard tales finally to the screen. Nikhil Madhok, Head of Originals at Prime Video (India), has also voiced support for the show. “Sanjeev Sanyal’s remarkable book shines a light on a vital part of our freedom struggle, and we’re immensely proud to bring this story to life,” he told the press during the teaser rollout.

Set for release on Prime Video, The Revolutionaries joins a growing trend of high-budget, patriotic Indian period dramas. With its focus on the lesser-known movements, the idealism in youth, and some unsung freedom fighters, it aims to carve a distinct niche with the OTT crowd.

The Revolutionaries will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video in 2026.
