Ruckus In The Name Of Kanwar Yatra: Roadside Sunglasses Shop Vandalised In Haridwar, 2 Accused Arrested; Police Shares VIDEO

Haridwar (Uttarakhand), July 14: In a shocking incident, few miscreants tried to tarnish the sanctity of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. A video has surfaced on social media which shows that two men, disguised as Kanwariyas (pilgrims), created chaos at a shop in Uttarakhand's Haridwar. A minor argument between the youths and the shop owner escalated after which they vandalised the spectacles shop with sticks.

The incident was caught on camera and the video is viral on social media. The viral video invited police action after which both the accused were arrested by the Uttarakhand Police. The police also shared the video on their official social media account, informing about the arrest of the accused after they vandalised the shop.

There are reports that the incident occurred in a busy area of Haridwar. The area is witnessing heavy footfall of pilgrims due to the annual Kanwar Yatra. On Monday morning, the two individuals dressed as Kanwariyas reached the eyewear shop located on the roadside under the pretext of purchasing spectacles.

A heated argument erupted between them and the shopkeeper, after which the two began to smash the shop's counters full of sunglasses and spectacles with sticks. The shopkeeper had to flee the spot to save his life from the miscreants.

They caused extensive damage to the shop, with the losses running into thousands of rupees. The entire incident was caught on CCTV camera and the video is doing rounds on social media.

Uttarakhand Police shared the video on social media and said, "Taking cognizance of a video circulating on social media showing vandalism by some anti-social elements disguised as Kanwariyas on Haridwar's Upper Road during a dispute over buying glasses, Haridwar Police promptly registered a case and arrested 02 accused persons from Haryana."

Based on the CCTV footage, police were able to identify and arrest the two accused. A case has been registered against the duo and police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway.
