Postal Department launches Gangajal service in Sirsa for Sawan devotees

The Indian Postal Department has launched the Gangotri Gangajal Sewa in Sirsa for Sawan devotees. With the service, the worshippers of Lord Shiva no longer need to travel to Gangotri, Rishikesh, or Haridwar to collect Gangajal for religious rituals like Jalabhishek.

The Sirsa Head Post Office has received 200 bottles of Gangajal, each containing 250 ml water brought from Rishikesh. These are available to the public for just Rs 30 per bottle. According to postal officials, the service is for those who are unable to go on pilgrimages due to financial or health constraints.

Superintendent of Posts Krishna Sachdeva said special counters would also be set up outside temples in Sirsa on the occasion of Shivratri to make it even easier for the devotees to access the holy water. Locals have welcomed the move, calling it both practical and thoughtful. “Earlier, we had to travel far or ask relatives to bring Gangajal. Now, we can get it from our nearby Post Office,” said Anand Bhargav, a resident of Sirsa.

The department aims at selling at least 1,000 bottles this season. The officials said the holy water was sourced and transported with proper care to maintain its sanctity.

Sachdeva added that the initiative was not only a religious offering but also a symbol of the Postal Department’s commitment to public service. The Gangajal bottles will be available at all local post offices during Sawan.
