HPNLU gets a ‘distinguished prof’: Ex-CJI brings judicial expertise
Justice Sanjiv Khanna, former Chief Justice of India, will be joining the Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) as a “distinguished professor”, following his acceptance of the university’s invitation.
Justice Khanna, who served as the 51st Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, retired on May 13, 2025, after a distinguished judicial career marked by erudition, administrative acumen and a deep commitment to justice. He was elevated to the Supreme Court on January 18, 2019 and held several prominent roles during his tenure. His association with HPNLU is longstanding — he previously served as the visitor to the university. Expressing gratitude on behalf of the institution, Prof (Dr) Priti Saxena, Vice-Chancellor of HPNLU, called Justice Khanna’s appointment a transformative milestone for the university.
“Justice Khanna’s acceptance to serve as distinguished professor is not only a great honour but also a turning point for HPNLU. His wisdom, vast judicial experience and unwavering commitment to the rule of law will profoundly enhance our academic and research pursuits,” she stated.
She further noted that his presence on campus is expected to enrich the intellectual ecosystem, mentoring aspiring lawyers and scholars and guiding the university toward new heights in legal education and research.
“With his integrity and insight, HPNLU is poised to enter a new era of academic excellence and research leadership,” she added. Justice Khanna’s association is anticipated to serve as a source of inspiration for future generations of legal professionals, reinforcing the university’s growing stature in India’s legal education landscape.
