Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan appointed Jharkhand HC CJ
The Central government has cleared the elevation of Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, senior most Judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. A notification has been issued in this regard by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice.
The Supreme Court collegium had recommended the name of Justice Chauhan as CJ of Jharkhand High Court on May 26.
Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan belongs to Rohru tehsil of Shimla district. He had obtained a Degree in Law from Punjab University, Chandigarh, and enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh in the year 1989. He practised in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in all branches of law.
He was elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh on February 23, 2014 and thereafter appointed as permanent Judge of the High Court on November 30, 2014.
Justice Chauhan is also the Executive Chairman of H.P State Legal Service Authority and in Board of the Governing Council the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla. He also remained as president of the HP Judicial Academy.
Being a chairperson of the Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, Justice Chauhan has done tremendous work for the welfare and interest of the children of Bal/Balika Ashrams, Himachal, Hospital for Mental Health and Rehab, Shimla and old age homes of Himachal Pradesh.
Justice Chauhan remained as Acting Chief Justice of High Court of Himachal Pradesh with effect from April 20, 2023 to May 29, 2023 and again from October 19, 2024 to December 28, 2024. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan has delivered a number of landmark judgments.
