Meet actress, who starred in over 200 films, worked with Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, still unmarried at 55, is single mother to…, her name is…

Starting acting at a very young age, Shobana is considered one of the most versatile and respected actresses in Indian cinema. In a career spanning over four decades, she has starred in over 200 films across several industries- Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. She has worked alongside many South Indian superstars throughout her career and has been conferred with both prestigious the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for her remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.

How did Shobana rise to fame?

In 1984, Shobana made her acting debut with the Malayalam film Ithiri Poove Chuvannapoove, alongside Mammootty. She then appeared in Tamil film Enakkul Oruvan (1984) and since then there was no looking back. She consistently worked with some of Indian cinema’s biggest names in films like Ponmana Selvan, Thenmavin Kombathu, Minnaram, Hitler, Thira, and Thalapathi, establishing herself as a leading actress.

In addition to film success, Shobana is renowned for her impeccable contribution to Indian classical arts. She established herself as a highly-trained Bharatanatyam dancer, performing on different stages worldwide.

Why Shobana never got married and remained single at 55?

Despite being one of the most successful actresses, Shobana never got married and is still single at the age of 55. In one of her earlier interviews, the actress said that amid life’s hustle and bustle, she never paid attention to getting married and settle down.

According to BollywoodShaadis, Shobana said, “Well, I am not particularly against the institution of marriage in anyways. I haven’t found the time for it amidst my busy schedule. Maybe I haven’t spotted the right guy. And for that matter, I have seen only a few marriages that work. That can also be one of the reasons.”

For Shobana, marriage can never be an ultimate goal to lead a happy and successful life. She said, “I am not here to share about my personal life and choices. I don’t think only marriage can give happiness and I am saddened to hear everyone thinking that marriage is ultimate in life to feel fulfilled. There are many ways and every individual’s life has its own merits and journey. You can’t just generalize things.”

In 2011, Shobana became a single mother by adopting a baby girl, whom she named Anantha Narayani. She prefers to keep her daughter away from the limelight and has also restricted her pictures from being circulated on any social media platform.
