Mining mafia attacks DSP’s father-in-law, Baddi industrialist
Baljeet Singh Rana, father-in-law of DSP and international kabaddi player Ajay Thakur, was allegedly attacked by the mafia when the latter tried to stop illegal mining underway at the Kalakund khud in Nalagarh around 10 pm yesterday.
According to a complaint lodged with the Nalagarh police, Rana claimed that an earth excavation machine and a truck were being used for illegal mining at the Kalakund khud yesterday. When villagers gheraoed them, the driver of the truck fled but the owner of the two vehicles, Gurjeet Singh, a resident of Jagatpur, came there and abused Rana and also roughed him up.
A police team arrived there upon receiving information and seized the truck and the earth excavator. They also registered a case under the Mining Act against the owner of the vehicles, said SP, Baddi, Vinod Dhiman.
In another case, the mining mafia allegedly attacked industrialist Sonu Singh when the latter tried to sop illegal activities underway at the Balad khud in the vicinity of his factory in Baddi on June 12. As mining was causing damage to the boundary wall of his factory, Sonu tried to stop illegal activities. The mining mafia allegedly attacked him. Sonu claimed that the mining mafia also fired into the air to scare him.
