India News: Violence by Kawariyas in UP and Uttarakhand Sparks Safety Concerns, Snake Scare in Dehradun
Multiple incidents of mob violence by Kawariyas (Shiv devotees) have been reported across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. In Ghaziabad, a minor collision between a car and a Kawad led to chaos as enraged Kawariyas smashed the car's windshield, one even climbing onto the vehicle to vandalize it. In Meerut, Kawariyas assaulted a bus driver after a slight bump, pushing aside passengers who tried to intervene. Another disturbing incident occurred in Haridwar, where a group of Kawariyas assaulted a woman after her scooter accidentally touched one of them.Authorities in Uttarakhand have since issued strict guidelines for Kawariyas and have enhanced security measures along the pilgrimage routes. Despite this, violent acts by unruly elements among the devotees continue to raise public safety concerns.Meanwhile, in Dehradun’s Horawala area, panic broke out after a 12-foot-long King Cobra entered a residential home. Snake rescuer Adil Mirag and his team were called in to safely capture the massive reptile, which had terrified the locals. From mob aggression to natural scares, these incidents underscore the need for both crowd control during religious events and public awareness of wildlife safety during the monsoon season.
