QRSAM Defence System: The entire world has seen the prowess of the Indian armed forces during Operation Sindoor when India had broken the defence system of Pakistan army within three days. India’s defence systems including Brahmos missiles and S-400 played a critical part during the operation. The operation has taught several things to the Indian armed forces also where it lacked and where it dominated the Pak army. Now to overcome those lacks, the Indian government has approved a major deal of Rs 36 thousand crores. The money will be spent on preparing three regiments of Baby S-400. However, the Indian Army is demanding 11 such regiments. Plans are going on to spend 1.30 lakh crores will be spent on these 11 regiments.

Indian Missile Systems’ Prowess During Operation Sindoor

Indian missile systems has stunned Pakistan by dodging their China made defence system. Supersonic missile BrahMos played a critical part, destroying crucial targets. On the other hand, Akash missile, defence shields like S-400 fortified the country. Pak rained a drone army, but India’s defence system was ready for it. About 99 percent of the drones were destroyed as soon as they came within range of the Indian defence systems.

QRSAM Defence System

The Made in Russia S-400 is capable of detecting and destroying fighter jets, missiles and drones from about 400 km away. However, suicide drones or kamikaze drones have emerged as a new challenge in modern warfare. These drones fly at relatively low altitudes and detecting them is a bit difficult. To tackle it, India is purchasing the indigenously made S-400. The name of this baby S-400 isthe  QRSAM system.

What is QRSAM?

India’s government recently authorised the acquisition of three QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile) regiments, at a cost of Rs 360 billion (approx Rs 120 billion per regiment). Developed domestically by DRDO, this purchase aims to bolster India’s air defence capabilities. The Indian Army has requested a total of eleven such regiments.

QRSAM is a highly advanced mobile missile system and can destroy enemy fighter planes, helicopters, drones and other aerial threats within a range of 30 km. These lethal missiles are known for their quick reaction capability.

Operation Sindoor

During Operation Sindoor, between 7 and 10 May, India showcased the power of its defence system. During the operation, many Turkish-made drones and Chinese-made missiles were fired by Pakistan, but India’s multi-layer defence system destroyed all of them as soon as they came into range.

QRSAM also played an important role during the operation. Because of this, the army is now going to form 11 regiments of QRSAM.
