Police launch drive against eve-teasing
In a major step towards ensuring safety near educational and recreational spaces, the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate has launched a dedicated drive against eve-teasing and harassment, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma.
Twelve police parties, including four Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police and other gazetted officers, were deployed across key locations within the commissionerate’s jurisdiction. The teams conducted intensive checking near schools, colleges and recreational spots, resulting in the issuance of 118 challans and impounding of 12 vehicles.
The operation aimed to create a secure and respectful environment for students and the public. Police presence at the checkpoints served as both a deterrent and a reassurance to citizens.
The CP has directed that such enforcement drives be further intensified in coming days to continue cracking down on miscreants and maintaining public order.
While leading this drive, Sharma also interacted with some youths roaming near colleges and inquired about their purpose. He also instructed police officials to ensure regular patrolling outside educational institutions, including schools, so that no miscreants dare to harass girl students. The top cop also directed police stations to take speedy action if they receive any eve-teasing complaint.
Notably, due to the instructions of the CP, police personnel remain present outside educational institutions during morning and dispersal time.
