Schools to deploy marshals for traffic management during peak hours

A meeting was convened by Swapan Sharma Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, at the Commissionerate Office today, bringing together representatives from prominent schools from across the city. The agenda centered on structured guidelines under the safe school vahan scheme and collaborative efforts to address the ongoing traffic challenges outside school premises, particularly during peak hours.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the traffic wing of Ludhiana Commissionerate, including Parminder Singh Bhandal, DCP (Law and Order-cum-Traffic); Gurpreet Kaur Purewal, ADCP, Traffic; Jatin Bansal, ACP, Traffic-1, Ludhiana; and Gurpreet Singh, ACP, Traffic-2, Ludhiana.

In an effort to tackle congestion during the opening and closing hours, school authorities were given clear instructions to deploy 10 marshals/volunteers to assist with traffic management. These marshals would be hired by the schools and would operate in coordination with the traffic/PCR officials deployed by Ludhiana police.

Other significant guidelines issued to the schools include that schools must ensure that no unauthorised parking takes place near the campus and strict enforcement of traffic rules is mandatory, not only for school management but also for the parents and guardians.

Schools were also reminded to follow the guidelines set under the safe school vahan scheme to ensure the safety of students and to minimise potential accidents near school zones.

Representatives from a number of esteemed schools from across Ludhiana participated in the session, including, Green Land Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar Bypass; Sacred Heart Convent School, Sector-39, Chandigarh Road; Ryan International School, Jamalpur; BCM School, Sector 32, Chandigarh Road; Sacred Heart Convent School, Sahnewal; Sachdeva School, Sahnewal; Green Land Convent School, Dugri; Sat Paul Mittal School, Dugri; BCM School, Basant Avenue; Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar; and Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar.

The Ludhiana Police Commissionerate reiterated its unwavering commitment to improving road safety, especially for schoolchildren, and creating a more disciplined traffic environment throughout the city. Police Commissioner Sharma said the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the school community would lead to a significant reduction in traffic chaos and enhanced safety for all road users.
