Uttar Pradesh News: Jal Jeevan Mission Exposed In Varanasi's Gudia Village As Residents Battle Drinking Water Crisis Despite Infrastructure
Varanasi: The reality of the Jal Jeevan Mission has been exposed in Gudia village, Sewapuri block, Varanasi, where hundreds of residents continue to face a severe drinking water crisis. Despite pipelines being laid and a water tank installed under the scheme, homes have received no connections, and the tank remains empty.
Women in the village are forced to travel long distances daily to fetch water, wasting precious time and impacting children's education, household chores, and overall health.
Local resident Mitthu Kumar confirmed that while pipes are visible, no connections were provided, and the tank yields no water. Villagers have repeatedly complained to the Panchayat and Block offices, but their pleas have gone unheard.
Elders lament that politicians make grand promises during elections, garnering applause for mentioning the Jal Jeevan Mission, only to disappear afterward. The mission's goal is to provide piped potable water to every rural household by 2024.
Villagers are now demanding a district administration inquiry and immediate restoration of water supply, warning of protests if their concerns are not addressed.
