Netizens Slam Kangana Ranaut For Not Helping Old Himachali Man 'Sitting At Her Feet', Video Viral
Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has landed in hot water after a video emerged showing her dismissing an elderly man’s plea during a public grievance meeting in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, igniting a wave of criticism across social media.
The footage surfaced only days after Kangana publicly voiced her frustrations about her political journey, further intensifying the spotlight on her recent actions.
Viral Video Draws Attention
The video captures Ranaut presiding over a grievance redressal session. In the clip, an elderly man is seen sitting on the ground at her feet, speaking softly as he seeks her help in resolving personal issues.
Visibly unmoved, Ranaut responds, “Yeh mukhya mantri ke jo kaam hai woh toh aap unko hi bata sakte hain (You can tell this to the Chief Minister)… Mujhe mukhya mantri ke kaam batake (Why tell me things that only a Chief Minister can do)?”
In an attempt to redirect him, she advises that he could raise the matter with the Chief Minister. The man then pleads with Ranaut to bring up his concern in Parliament, prompting her to assure him that she would help connect him with Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar.
Social Media Outrage
However, the exchange has triggered widespread backlash, with critics accusing the Mandi MP of being insensitive and dismissive. Many were particularly upset that the elderly man remained seated on the ground while airing his grievances.
One user wrote, “Actress becomes politician and realises the job is harder than she anticipated,” while another questioned, “Why make this old man sit on the ground?”
“Shame on her, elderly man sitting at her feet,” commented another user, echoing sentiments of disapproval. Others were equally scathing, asking, “Why did she enter politics if she couldn’t take the responsibility that comes with it?”
The criticism extended further, with some drawing comparisons between Ranaut and other actors who transitioned into political roles. “This is what happens when Bollywood actresses become politicians, e.g. Hema Malini, Smriti Irani, now Kangana Ranaut,” read one particularly pointed remark.
