Who Performed The First Parthiv Shivling Puja?

According to the Shiv Puran, the worship of Parthiv Shivlings has been practised since ancient times. In the early days of Kaliyug, Mandap, the son of sage Kushmand Rishi, was the first to perform this ritual. It is also believed that Lord Ram worshipped a Parthiv Shivling before his battle against Ravan in Lanka.

How To Make A Parthiv Shivling

  • Use clean soil from a riverbank, pond, or a pure flowerpot. Avoid using any other kind of mud.
  • Wash the soil thoroughly before shaping it.
  • Traditionally, soil is mixed with cow dung, jaggery, butter, and sacred ash to prepare the clay.
  • The height of the Shivling should not exceed 12 fingers (approximately the height of a thumb).
  • Some also add ghee to the mixture, which is considered auspicious.
  • Chant the mantra “Om Namo Haraya” while making the Shivling.
  • Food offered to the Parthiv Shivling is not meant for human consumption. It is believed to be for Lord Shiv’s attendants and should be given to a cow.

Parthiv Shivling Puja Vidhi

  • Pradosh Kaal is considered the best time for this puja.

  • Offer sandalwood paste, flowers, incense, lamp, and food offerings. Recite the Shiv Chalisa.
  • After the aarti and flower offering, respectfully ask Lord Shiv to return to his abode.
