Two women among five booked for cheating, conspiracy
The Mehatpur police have booked five members of a family, including two women, on charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Station House Officer (SHO) Balbir Singh said the accused were identified as Makhan Singh, a resident of Dhamredian Chhana village, his father Gurdass Singh, his wife Shinder Kaur, his brother Prem Singh, and his daughter Jasveer Kaur.
Gurdev Kaur, a resident of Mundicholian village under the Lohian Khas police station, complained to the SSP, Jalandhar (Rural) that the accused agreed to marry their daughter, Jasveer Kaur, to her son, Baldev Singh, living illegally in the USA. She said the Chunni ceremony of Jasveer Kaur was held.
The complainant said it was mutually agreed that Jasveer Kaur would go to Canada, from where she would travel by car to the USA to join Baldev Singh. The complainant said she spent Rs 12.5 lakh for facilitating migration of Jasveer Kaur to Canada. She said after reaching Canada, Jasveer Kaur did not join her son as per a conspiracy by her family. The complainant said she was cheated by Jasveer Kaur’s family.
The SHO said DSP (Headquarter) conducted an inquiry into the matter. He said the SSP sought legal opinion of the district attorney and ordered registration of a case against the accused in this connection.
