Gujarat: Grief Grips Farming Family As 3 Children Drown In Lake At Rajkot's Padaria Village
Rajkot: Three young boys drowned while bathing in a lake in Padaria village of Jamkandorana taluka in Rajkot district on Thursday morning. All three children belonged to a family of agricultural labourers, sending shockwaves through the tight-knit rural community.
About The Deceased
The deceased were identified as Bhavesh Dangi (6), Hitesh Dangi (8), and Nitesh Mavi (7). Among them, Bhavesh and Hitesh were siblings. The children had gone to the lake for a bath, a routine practice in many villages during the summer, but met with a fatal misfortune when they suddenly slipped into deeper waters and drowned.
“The children often go to bathe in the lake, but today something went horribly wrong,” said the village sarpanch, who was among the first to respond after being alerted by other villagers.
Upon learning about the incident, the sarpanch and a local swimmer immediately rushed to the site and pulled the children out of the water. Unfortunately, by the time they were retrieved, all three were unresponsive. Their bodies were taken to Jamkandorana Civil Hospital, where a postmortem is being conducted.
“We reached the site along with police and Mamlatdar as soon as we were informed. It is a deeply sorrowful incident,” said a local police official.
A pall of grief has descended on Padaria village as the community mourns the tragic loss. The children's families, already burdened with financial struggles, are devastated.
“Losing three children in a single morning is beyond comprehension. The entire village stands with the families in this dark hour,” said a local resident with tears in his eyes.
Authorities are urging parents to be more cautious and to supervise children near open water bodies, especially in rural areas where safety infrastructure is lacking.
