Movie Ticket Price: Good news for cinema lovers! Watch the movie in theatres any day and any time for only Rs 200

Movie Ticket: The state government has fixed the maximum limit of movie ticket prices at Rs 200, so that now movies can be watched at cheaper rates even in multiplexes. Let’s know its complete details ahead.

The Karnataka government has taken a big step to make cinema more accessible. The government has set a maximum limit of Rs 200 on movie ticket prices across the state, which also includes entertainment tax. This rule will also apply to multiplex cinemas.

This announcement comes after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s promise in the March 2025 budget, in which he talked about capping ticket prices across the state. The move is part of Karnataka’s 16th budget, which aims to support and strengthen Kannada cinema.

OTT platform for Kannada films

To promote Kannada films, the government is planning to soon launch its own over-the-top (OTT) platform. It will be exclusively for Kannada films. The move comes in response to concerns raised by industry stalwarts such as Rakshit Shetty and Rishab Shetty, who highlighted the lack of interest in regional content by major streaming services.

Rakshit Shetty’s Paramavaha Studios launched its own streaming platform for its web series ‘Ekam’ in July 2024 after it could not get any major OTT deal.

As part of cultural preservation efforts, the government has allocated Rs 3 crore to create a comprehensive archive of Kannada films. The archive will be in both digital and analog formats and will focus on films that reflect the social, historical and cultural aspects of Karnataka.
