Joju George announces title for ‘Pani 2’; shooting to begin in December

Joju George has officially confirmed that title for his next directorial venture. A sequel to the film Pani, the next instalment, which was tentatively called Pani 2, will be titled Deluxe. The actor took to Instagram to confirm the news.

According to OnManorama, the actor had also announced the news during the pooja ceremony for his upcoming film Aasha, where he will star alongside veteran actress Urvashi.

Pani is a Malayalam-language thriller that revolves around a happy couple, Giri and Gauri, whose lives are turned upside down after encountering two young men with a criminal history. The couple are involuntarily roped in to become part of the vengeance against the mobs of Thrissur. The film also stars MG Abhinaya, Sagar Surya, Junaiz V.P., Abhaya Hiranmayi and Seema.

The film marked one of George’s most lauded performances and was especially praised considering it was the actor’s directorial debut. The film managed to gross Rs 36 crore against a reported budget of Rs 15 – 25 crore.

The success of the film demanded a sequel from George, who announced in April that the script of Pani 2 was complete and is currently in the pre-production phase. He also disclosed that filming would begin in December. But the actor did not stop there. George envisions a full trilogy, so a Pani 3 is likely on the horizon.

While the first film followed the life of Giri and Gauri, the second will not follow the same storyline. George’s character in the film will be called Deluxe Benny, and fans will have to wait a while to see what he gets up to.
