Chandigarh has ranked second in the prestigious Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 awards announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The city has received the rank under the Super Swachh League of cities within the population category of 3–10 lakh in the Swachh Survekshan 2024 rankings.

Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, and Harpreet Kaur Babla, Mayor, received the award from President Droupadi Murmu in a function held in New Delhi.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, announced the Swachh Survekshan 2024 rankings.

Mayor Babla said that this recognition is a testament to the city’s consistent top-tier performance in cleanliness and sanitation under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Babla said Chandigarh continues to set benchmarks in urban sanitation, reaffirming its status as one of India’s cleanest and most sustainable cities.

She said this is a great achievement and was accomplished only with the help of the citizens.

This year, the awards have been presented across four categories, including Super Swachh League Cities and the top three clean cities in five population categories.

Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 adopted a smart, structured approach to assess urban cleanliness and service delivery, offering a complete view of sanitation and waste management in cities. This year, the awards spotlight the theme of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”

Over 3,000 assessors conducted thorough inspections in every ward across the country over a period of 45 days.
