Union Minister Chirag Paswan has attacked the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government of the state over the law and order situation in Bihar after a history-sheeter was gunned down inside a hospital room on Thursday. Murders have become a daily affair in Bihar and the police are not effective in ensuring law and order in the state, giving a major boost to the morale of criminal gangs, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief said in a not-very-veiled attack on the Nitish administration.

"Law and order in Bihar has become a serious concern today. Murders are happening every day, and the morale of criminals is sky-high. The functioning of the police and administration is beyond comprehension," Chirag Paswan jotted on X.

Highlighting the Chandan Mishra murder as the latest example of the administrative failure that Bihar is witnessing under JD(U), the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries added, "The incident of criminals openly firing inside Paras Hospital, located in a residential area of Patna today, is proof that criminals are now directly challenging the law and administration. The rising criminal cases just before the Bihar Legislative Election are worrisome. It is hoped that the administration will soon take concrete and strict steps to bring law and order back on track."

In a shocking incident, five gunmen entered a private hospital in Patna on Thursday morning to fatally shoot Chandan Mishra, who was a hardened criminal. Two others also suffered bullet injuries as the armed men barged into the hospital room where Mishra was undergoing treatment while out on parole. He was admitted to the hospital's ICU when rival gangsters launched the surprise attack and successfully got away.

The CCTV visuals of the incident have caused a large uproar across the country. While the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not yet announced the official dates for the Bihar assembly polls, the term of the current 243-member Bihar Assembly ends on November 22, 2025.
