Hoshiarpur-based water policy expert wins Mrs World International in ‘charming’ category

Dr Ankita Menon, a water policy expert from Hoshiarpur, has been crowned Mrs World International 2025 in the “Charming” category at the pageant held in Gurugram. The event saw over 25,000 contestants worldwide, with only 150 finalists reaching the grand finale. Dr Menon’s unique blend of intellect, grace and conviction earned her the coveted title.

Born and raised in Hoshiarpur, Dr Menon is the daughter of teacher Minakshi Menon and lawyer VK Menon. She credits her husband, Deepesh Kalra, and her family for their unwavering support. A social scientist and water policy specialist, Dr Menon holds a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University and has collaborated with national and international organisations such as Invest India and Nordic agencies.

Currently, she leads strategic partnerships at GuruJal, an organisation dedicated to restoring water bodies and ecosystems across India. Reflecting on her work, Dr Menon said, “I feel deeply connected to water—both spiritually and professionally.”

Her doctoral research on sustainable water management has been presented at top international forums, including the Royal Geographical Society in London. She advocates for merging traditional knowledge with modern science to address water challenges. During a year-long stay in Rajasthan’s Kaladera village, she gained firsthand experience with rural water issues. “Sustainability requires collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and citizens,” she stressed.

Describing the pageant’s significance, Dr Menon said, “Mrs World International is more than a beauty contest; it empowers married women to celebrate authentic beauty beyond stereotypes.”

Under the leadership of Barkha Nangia, Director of Mrs World International and Glamour Gurgaon, the pageant highlights the strength, intellect, and spirit of married women globally. On her future goals, Dr Menon stated, “My mission is to become the Water Woman of India—bridging science, tradition, and policy to secure India’s water future.”
