2 Arrested For Clash Between BJP, NCP(SP) Supporters Outside Maharashtra Assembly

Two people have been arrested, and the police have registered an FIR in connection with the scuffle between BJP and NCP-SP supporters outside the Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday.

Tensions flared at the Maharashtra legislature complex as supporters of NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Jitendra Awhad and BJP MLC Gopichand Padalkar broke into a scuffle.

According to police officials, Nitin Deshmukh, a supporter of Awhad, and Rishikesh Takle, linked to Padalkar, were taken into custody on Friday for their role in Thursday's altercation within the Vidhan Bhavan premises.

Both men were taken to the Marine Drive police station in south Mumbai, where a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators confirmed that both accused have prior criminal records.

The political flare-up took a dramatic turn in the early hours of Thursday when Awhad staged a sit-in protest near the rear gate of the Vidhan Bhavan, shortly after Deshmukh was detained by police. The NCP (SP) leader vocally opposed the arrest, accusing the authorities of targeting his supporter unfairly.

The incident marks another flashpoint in the ongoing tensions between rival factions in the state’s political landscape, highlighting the fragile atmosphere inside Maharashtra’s power corridors.

Both Deshmukh and Takle are expected to be produced before the court later in the day.
