His homecoming was met with a heartfelt reunion with his family, and for his wife, Kamana Shukla, the first Indian woman to have  received a phone call from space.

On June 25, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla launched aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket in the Axiom-4 mission. He arrived at the International Space Station on June 26, and he celebrated this milestone by making a historic video call to his wife Kamana—becoming the first Indian to make a video call from space.

“Hearing his voice and knowing he was safe was everything to me,” Kamana said recalling the emotional experience of talking with her husband in space. During the phone call, Shubhanshu shared his daily routine on the ISS, scientific experiments taking place, and the views of Earth from orbit.
