'Mat Karo Yaar': Vaani Kapoor Slams Cancel Culture, Urges Compassion Amid Abir Gulaal Controversy
Vaani Kapoor, who is currently awaiting the release of her upcoming OTT show Mandala Murders, spoke about the boycott and cancel culture, stating that people are being 'harsh' to one another and that she does not understand this volatile behaviour. Her statement comes days after her film Abir Gulaal, starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, was banned in India following the Pahalgam terror attack, an incident that reignited calls from politicians and trade organisations to boycott Pakistani artists.
Vaani Kapoor Slams Boycott Culture
The actress told PTI, "I feel there's so much toxicity and hate that I keep hearing... 'aaj isko boycott kar do, aaj isko cancel kar do'. Mat karo yaar, have room and let people be." She added that it can leave a psychological impact, making people doubt themselves even before understanding the situation, citing examples of students in schools and colleges outside the film industry, and how everyone is affected by it.
"They've not fully bloomed yet, they've not figured out who they are. We're humans, we're bound to make errors, we're not saints, and you learn from your mistakes," added Kapoor.
Vaani Kapoor Urges Positivity
The 36-year-old actress said that she might have a different opinion on a situation, but that doesn't make her a bad human being, nor does it mean someone should be 'cancelled' or denied their space to exist. Vaani urged people to not be harsh, to stay happy, and to give love a chance instead of spreading hate.
