Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani’s bahu Shloka Mehta makes big statement on motherhood, says ‘I tell my….’

In a rare podcast interview with influencer and entrepreneur Masoom Minawala, Shloka Mehta, Mukesh Ambani’s daughter-in-law, shared her honest thoughts about how she manages her work, dreams, and motherhood. In a video posted on Masoom Minawala’s YouTube channel on July 18, Shloka Mehta spoke about how she manages work along with being a mom. She said that being part of a non-profit like ConnectFor gives her a chance to create something meaningful that her children Prithvi Akash Ambani and Veda Ambani can be proud of. For her, it’s about leaving behind a legacy that shows her kids the value of doing something good for others.

Shloka talked about her role as the co-founder of ConnectFor, a platform that helps connect volunteers with non-profit organisations in India. She said working on something meaningful has given her life more purpose.

“I feel proud telling my kids that just like they go to school, their mom goes to work,” she said. “We’re all doing something every day to grow and become better.” She added that creating something with love and commitment becomes part of the legacy we leave for our children.

Shloka also shared her simple wish for her kids and other young people: “I want them to know that any career is okay. It’s fine if success comes slowly, just keep going and believe in what you’re building.”

“You need to be aware of the world around you. You need to think, ‘What can I do for it?’ I think for me, it has doubled my resolve because you are creating something for someone you are fully invested in, who is going to be influenced by it. I think that is the best legacy you can leave behind for your kids. I was passionate about something that I really followed what I wanted to do, and I wanted them to do the same thing.

Akash Ambani’s support for her work

Shloka Mehta shared how important her family’s support has been in her journey with ConnectFor. She said her biggest achievement so far has simply been keeping the organisation going and that wouldn’t have happened without the constant encouragement from her and co-founder Maniti Shah’s families.

“None of this would’ve worked if our families didn’t stand by us or believe in us as much as we believed in ourselves,” Shloka said. She added that their parents and husbands, including Akash Ambani, are genuinely proud of their work. “It feels really special when they say, ‘This is what my wife does.’ We’ve been very lucky.”

What is ConnectFor?

ConnectFor is a platform co-founded by Shloka Mehta and Maniti Shah that helps people who want to volunteer find the right non-profits to work with. As Shloka puts it, “It’s like a shaadi.com, but for volunteering.” They started it with one simple goal: to build a bridge between volunteers and NGOs that needed support.

Now, after 10 years, ConnectFor has grown a lot. It has worked with more than 1 lakh (100,000) volunteers and over 1,000 non-profit organisations. Because of their efforts, NGOs have saved more than Rs. 21 crore in resources. So far, volunteers have spent over 4.18 lakh hours helping others through the platform. Today, ConnectFor partners with 120 companies and more than 150 student groups across India.

Shloka also spoke about how the social sector in India often doesn’t get the attention or credit it deserves. She said that a lack of funding leads to a shortage of skilled people, and without the right people, it’s hard to make a real difference.

She also raised concerns about how policies are made without listening to people who actually work on the ground. For example, she mentioned school toilets built for girls that were never maintained properly. “No one taught the girls about menstrual hygiene either,” she said, “so the problem just came back.”

Shloka has always felt a strong desire to work in the social sector. After studying anthropology at Princeton and law at LSE, she came back to Mumbai in 2014 and started working in education. She said the huge gap in opportunities between different groups in society really moved her and made her want to help.

Shloka Mehta married Akash Ambani, the eldest son of Mukesh Ambani, in a beautiful wedding in March 2019. The two have known each other since childhood and even went to college together. Today, they are parents to two children. Their son, Prithvi Akash Ambani, was born in December 2020, and their daughter, Veda, was born in May 2023.
