Debt Free By 35: Redditor Shares Journey From Rs 7,000 Salary To Owning 2 Flats In Noida And Bengaluru
A resident of Bareilly has won broad admiration on social media after sharing his extraordinary financial success story on Reddit. In a post in the 'bengaluru_speaks' subreddit, the user talked about his financial journey from the beginning of his career and where he stands today.
Beginning with poor academic performance and earning just Rs 7,000 per month in 2013, this individual now owns two properties in Noida and Bengaluru while maintaining zero debt at age 35.
From Struggles to Savings Discipline
His path to prosperity wasn’t built on advantages, but on what he describes as a “kept-going-when-it-was-easier-to-quit" approach that carried him through countless academic failures, employment rejections and professional challenges.

This crucial moment arrived when a senior HR executive shared transformative guidance: “Save money like it’s rent, a non-negotiable aspect".
Embracing this philosophy completely, he monitored all expenditures, restricted credit card dependency and began systematic investments via fixed deposits and systematic investment plans.
His unwavering financial discipline yielded Rs 5 lakhs by 2018, supplemented by a Rs 2 lakh job-switch bonus, providing the capital needed for his inaugural Noida property purchase through a Rs 55–60 lakh mortgage.
He employed a quick loan clearance approach, making 14 monthly payments yearly rather than the standard 12, while channelling all bonuses towards principal reduction.

Debt Cleared, Dreams Realised
In 2023, responding to his wife’s wish for their baby to arrive in their own residence, he acquired a second Bengaluru property via a Rs 40 lakh loan, alongside a Rs 10 lakh vehicle loan. Though his combined borrowings exceeded Rs 1 crore, he has cleared 75–80 per cent of this debt and deliberately retains the balance for tax improvement purposes.
His achievements today result from making savings mandatory, emphasising advancement over perfection, and ignoring others’ opinions. In the post, he further said, “I wasn’t gifted. I wasn’t fast. I wasn’t a topper. I didn’t crack IIT. I didn’t go abroad. I stayed consistent. I stayed disciplined. I stayed hungry not for praise, but for peace. And today, at 35, I’m debt-free with two apartments, a happy marriage, and a child who’ll grow up knowing their dad never gave up. Money, like life, accumulates, compounds, and blooms only if you give it time and space to breathe. I always tell my wife God truly has a special place for me. He tested me at every turn, never gave anything too easily, but never let me stop either. Every milestone came only after I proved I was ready. That’s why I value every inch of this journey.”
Netizens React: Doubts and Motivation
His narrative demonstrates that wealth building does not demand extraordinary situations—only consistent discipline, smart planning and allowing finances sufficient time to grow, multiply, and flourish naturally.
While some netizens appreciated the user for sharing his honest approach, others found the story a bit “too good to be true.” However, the inspiration wasn't lost on anyone. One of the users said, “I don’t know & I don’t care about the people fighting in the comments section but this sure motivated me to make some serious changes. Thank you.”
Another person commented, “Don’t listen to the naysayers. It just screams their mindset. You did good my friend. Thanks for sharing.”
