Empowering women through Horticulture in J&K

The recent visit of the Union Agriculture Minister to Kashmir and the initiatives announced are both timely and transformative. Positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a global horticulture hub is not only economically strategic but socially empowering—especially for rural women. The emphasis on clean planting material, better logistics, and cold storage infrastructure is commendable, but it’s the integration of women through the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative that deserves special applause. Self-help groups have already shown how women can uplift entire communities. Scaling up these enterprises, providing branding support, and opening new markets will accelerate rural prosperity. The synergy between policy, infrastructure, and grassroots participation can truly reshape J&K’s economy and inspire other regions.
